Green Workplace Initiatives

At Lynch we are always working towards a greener, healthier work environment to promote sustainable healthy lifestyles.
Below are a few green initiatives that have been implemented within our workplace.

The Tower Garden
During the summer Lynch grows fresh vegetables in a traditional outdoor garden for their employees to enjoy. To allow for fresh vegetable growth year round, Lynch procured a Tower Garden – a vertical indoor aeroponic gardening system. The Tower Garden requires less maintenance, uses less space and 10% less water than a traditional garden. It uses no soil, and can grow vegetables all year round.  The structure is built from food grade plastic and can hold up to 28 plants. Growth of plants in a Tower Garden is much faster than in traditional gardens.

The Tower Garden can be seen in a variety of different settings throughout North America. In 2009, the world’s first certified green building was created using aquaponic and aeroponic towers on a rooftop. In 2011, the Aeroponic Urban Garden was opened within the O’Hare Airport in Chicago. It was at the O’Hare airport where Ernie Lynch first saw the Tower Garden in action and decided it would be a good fit for us at Lynch.

Currently planted in the Tower Garden are two types of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and basil. There are plans to add a larger variety of vegetables in the near future. This is an exciting project for Lynch Group of Companies as it helps us work toward a greener workspace and promotes healthier living for our employees.
